A Scientific Perspective Of Using Affirmations for Success and Happiness

Do you believe that using Affirmations can make an actual difference in your success?

If you do, great, read on!

If you are rolling your eyes right now thinking affirmations are ‘woo woo’ bs, I get it because that’s how I used to think too!

But, trust me, give this a read because I’ll break down how and why I changed my mind on them and its made a massive impact on my success.

First of all, what are ‘affirmations’?

“Affirmations are positive statements or phrases that are used to help individuals overcome negative self-talk or limiting beliefs. They are often repeated to oneself, either silently or aloud, as a way to reprogram the subconscious mind and promote a more positive outlook and mindset.

Affirmations can be used to focus on specific areas of life such as relationships, career, health, and personal development, and can help individuals to overcome obstacles, improve self-esteem, and achieve their goals. They are typically written in the present tense and are phrased in a positive and empowering way.

Examples of affirmations include statements such as "I am capable of achieving my goals," "I am worthy of love and respect," "I am confident and capable," and "I am grateful for all the blessings in my life."

Now here’s how I realized how powerful they truly are:

I’ve been a personal development junkie for 2 decades now, and while I’m not a skeptic, affirmations never really seemed like they did much other than maybe make you feel good or pump you up.

To be honest, I thought they were kind of cheesy and a waste of time.

But I’m a pretty open minded guy that will try anything, but that’s not what happened.

After years of helping other entrepreneurs & sales reps improve their skills in making deals happen, I would often notice people saying things like:

“I’m just not good at sales” or “I’m not good at tech” or “I’m not this or that”…

Or, people say things to avoid taking action like getting a coach that can increase their ROI in their business by saying:

“I don’t have enough money right now” or “I don’t have the time”.

So when someone say any of those statements, action stops because you’ve just a box to work within, instead of getting outside of that box.

“I’m not good at sales = so there’s no point in trying”.

“I don’t have enough money = so I won’t make an effort be resourceful and find a way to get some”.

“I’m not good at tech = so I’ll just avoid trying new things and stick to the old comfortable tech that is outdated and less productive.

I call those ‘negative affirmations’ and you can see how they literally stop you from taking action!

I thought to myself, if negative affirmations had a negative impact on performance, then wouldn’t positive affirmations also have a positive impact on performance?

This was profound for me.

I decided to create a few affirmations that would stimulate the ultimate growth mindset in me and compel me to take actions that created the outcomes I want:

“I can figure this out”

“I will do whatever it takes”

“If they can do it, so can I”

“I can go harder”.

Each one is very intentional, for example “If they can do it, so can I” means that others that have succeeded have PROVEN that it can be done and left clues. It also keeps me from imposter syndrome and encourages me to seek out being around people that are better than me instead of letting them make me feel like I’m not good enough.

“I can go harder” I use this one to remember we are always capable of going a little deeper.

“I will do whatever it takes” is a reminder for me to have goals that light me up so much, I’d be willing to put in 10x the amount of time and energy as a normal person to make it happen.

“I can figure this out” is to remind me there is a solution for every problem, so keep searching until you find it.

This 4 mantras my wife had printed above my shower so I could see them and say them every single day when I take my cold shower. It’s now my ritual and I KNOW it has a direct effect on my performance.

I’ve had these up on my shower for 3 years now and it makes such a huge difference in the way I process problems and attack my goals.
