The dangers of chronic busy-ness

efficiency motivation productivity time management work flow Jul 19, 2021

I want to challenge you on how you view time (and time management).

There is a big difference between being productive and being ‘busy’.

Productivity is quantifiable.

Busy is just a feeling, and a feeling of lack.

Think about all the people that have vast sums of money but never feel like they have enough, or always worried that it will be taken away.

Time is the same way.

We live in an age of more convenience & tools for efficiency than ever, but are people are any less busy?

If you live in what I call a ‘chronic state of busy-ness’, you are worried about things that haven’t happened yet, therefore thinking about the future and not the now.

Time seems to go by so fast.

Kids grow up in a blink of an eye.

You knock off massive checklists, but it does not feel like you are going anywhere.

When someone asks, ‘how are you?’, you respond ‘busy’.

Most of my days contain the following:

Breathwork

Meditation

Workout

Exercise

Cold shower & affirmations

Content creation

Engaging with my network

Learning (mastermind, courses, reading, podcasts, audiobooks)

Full time sales role

Family time (non-negotiable)

7-8 hours of sleep.

I don’t feel rushed or busy, but I do feel highly productive.

Think about this:

Do you remember when you were a kid, you were asked to write a report and the teacher tells you it has to be 5000 words, but you could have done it in 500?

That is what is happening when you live in a chronic state of busy-ness.

Your subconscious ends up filling up your day with ‘stuff to do’ and leaves you feeling like you are busy.

Are you as busy as you think?
